I have some Constructive Criticism for Substack, but first let me reiterate that I think Substack is the Shakespeare of online discourse compared to the comic book contributions of twitter, facebook etc. That being said, there should be a way for authors to see, and comment on, the ‘subscriber only’ materials of other authors. It would foster more in-depth exchanges among and between authors as well as raise the overall level of discourse for subscribees (if that’s a word). It’s quite jarring to read something relevant to one’s own work, and attempt to comment on it only to find out you aren’t in the ‘club.’ If Substack fixes this, it will be perfect. Writers can still block anyone (just like Steve ‘Thin Skin’ Kirsch blocked me), but by and large, it should work well for adults!

Or you could purchase a subscription to the authors you like? Maybe authors should discount subscriptions for other authors?
