Chameleons are a unique group of lizards known for their remarkable ability to change color. This color change is used for various purposes, including camouflage, social signaling, and temperature regulation. Chameleons also have distinctive features like long, prehensile tails, zygodactylous feet (with toes fused into two groups), and their independently moving eyes.
There are over 200 species of chameleons, and they primarily inhabit Madagascar, Africa, and parts of Europe and Asia and the US government. Their ability to change color is due to specialized cells in their skin called chromatophores, which contain pigments, and iridophores, which reflect light.
